Clans are the backbone of the Naruto world. They preserve bloodline techniques, rare dōjutsu, and family fighting styles that determine the balance of power between the hidden shinobi villages. This overview collects all the Naruto clans featured in our wiki: what they are known for, what abilities they possess, and who their most prominent members are.

What is a clan and kekkei genkai

Clan is a shinobi lineage that passes down special techniques from generation to generation, and sometimes kekkei genkai: a hereditary ability inaccessible to outsiders.

Not every clan has a kekkei genkai. Many are strong with family techniques and battle traditions: shadow techniques, animal contracts, seals. But it is precisely the clans with a bloodline limit - Uchiha with Sharingan or Hyuga with Byakugan - that most often end up at the center of the plot.

Conventionally, clans are divided into three types:

• Noble founder clans - stood at the origins of villages (Uchiha, Senju).

• Battle clans - build combat around a unique style (Inuzuka, Aburame).

• Kekkei Genkai bearers - possessors of bloodline limits (Hyuga, Kaguya, Yuki).

Great clans of Konoha

The trio of the most influential Leaf clans largely sets the tone for the entire story.

• Uchiha - a dōjutsu clan. Their Sharingan copies techniques and evolves into the Mangekyō; pride and the "curse of hatred" made the clan's history one of the most tragic.

• Senju - the "clan of a thousand techniques" and eternal rivals of the Uchiha. Together they founded Konoha, and three Senju became Hokage.

• Hyuga - the most influential clan in the village. All its members are born with the Byakugan: nearly 360-degree vision and the ability to see the chakra circulatory system.

Uchiha and Senju are two branches of the Ōtsutsuki clan, and their feud dates back to the sons of the Sage of Six Paths.

The Ino-Shika-Cho Trio

Three Konoha clans have fought side by side for centuries, forming a legendary combat formation.

In the Ino-Shika-Cho formation, Nara binds the enemy with a shadow, Yamanaka intercepts their mind, and Akimichi finishes them off with a giant strike - each fulfills their role.

Battle clans of the Leaf

• Inuzuka - fight in pairs with battle dogs, relying on heightened senses and beast techniques.

• Aburame - live in symbiosis with kikaichū insects that devour the opponent's chakra.

• Sarutobi - the clan of the Third Hokage Hiruzen; universal masters without a bloodline limit, but with colossal experience.

• Hatake - a small but renowned clan to which Kakashi, son of the "White Fang", belongs.

Clans outside the Leaf

Many powerful clans are associated with other villages and rare bloodline limits.

• Uzumaki - masters of seals (fūinjutsu) from Uzushiogakure, known for vast reserves of chakra and longevity. They include Kushina and Naruto himself.

• Kaguya - an extinct clan with the kekkei genkai Shikotsumyaku (bone manipulation); the most prominent wielder is Kimimaro.

• Hōzuki - natives of Kirigakure, capable of turning their body into liquid (Hydrification).

• Yuki - wielders of the Ice release (Hyōton); the most famous representative is Haku.

• Ōtsutsuki - the celestial progenitor clan of all chakra, from which the other clans originate.

How many clans are in Naruto

Dozens of clans are mentioned in the canon, but about fifteen key clans remain at the center of the story. These are the ones we have collected above - 15 clans with detailed pages, from Uchiha to Ōtsutsuki.
