The Kaguya Clan descended from Kaguya Ootsutsuki and inherited her name, but not her power, preserving only echoes of ancient strength in the form of a rare kekkei genkai. The clan formed as an extremely warlike and savage group, not inclined to negotiations or alliances, placing the demonstration of their own ferocity at the forefront. When entering battle, they did not use tactics, did not form battle formations, and did not plan attacks, preferring reckless assault, since the very process of fighting was for them a way to satiate bloodlust. This absolute inability to think strategically led to their self-destruction when the entire clan launched an attack on Kirigakure. Even when surrounded and vastly outmatched in strength, they did not retreat, refused to surrender, and fought to the last person, preferring mass death to flight. The sole survivor of this massacre was a boy named Kimimaro, who differed from his kin in that he did not share their maniacal craving for meaningless slaughter. Orochimaru found him and took him under his wing, and for several years Kimimaro lived as the last representative of the vanished clan, until he died from an unknown and incurable illness.
