The Ninja Academy is the foundation from which the path of every shinobi of the Hidden Leaf begins. Children come here to leave as genin: with a forehead protector, a first team, and the right to call themselves a ninja of the village. It was within the walls of the Academy that Naruto transformed from a village outcast into the one to whom all of Konoha would one day be entrusted.
Briefly. The Academy is a state shinobi school where children are taught the basics of ninjutsu, taijutsu, and village life. The graduation exam turns a student into a genin and opens the way to the world of real missions.
What is the Ninja Academy
The Academy is the official educational institution of Konoha, subordinate to the Hokage and the Village Council. It accepts children and graduates teenagers ready for their first real missions. Training is conducted by experienced chūnin instructors, for whom mentorship is a service no less honorable than combat missions.
The Academy's task is twofold: to give future shinobi basic skills and to weed out those who are not ready for the deadly work of a ninja. That is why children from great clans and nameless orphans sit side by side at the same desk — but only those who pass the exam will receive the headband.
What they teach at the Academy
The program covers everything a genin needs to survive the first mission and not let the team down.

Clone Technique, Bunshin, and Kawarimi are considered the mandatory minimum for a graduate. Significantly, Naruto failed the exam three times specifically on the Clone Technique: his chakra was too much for such a delicate technique.
Graduation exam
To become a genin, a student must pass the graduation exam and receive a hitai-ate — a forehead protector with the village symbol. After that, fresh genin are assigned to teams of three under a jonin.
Having failed the exam for the third time, he fell for the trap of the traitor Mizuki and stole the Forbidden Scroll. But instead of becoming a criminal, Naruto learned Shadow Clone from the scroll, protected his teacher — and it was Iruka who first recognized him as a true shinobi, handing him his own headband.
Iruka and mentors
The face of the Academy — Umino Iruka, a chunin who lost his parents during the Nine-Tails' attack. Strict but fair, he saw in the lonely Naruto not a monster with Kurama inside, but a child who needed someone to believe in him. Their bond is one of the warmest in the story.

Mizuki — Iruka's colleague, secretly working for Orochimaru; his betrayal became Naruto's first trial.
Ebisu — elite private tutor, mentor of Konohamaru, grandson of the Third Hokage.

Almost all the village's heroes went through the Academy. The core of one class — the future "Konoha 11" and the legendary Team 7.

Academies of other villages
It's important to remember: everything said above is about the Academy of Konoha specifically. In other Great Villages, shinobi schools are organized differently, sometimes much more harshly. The saddest of all is the reputation of Kirigakure from the "Bloody Mist" era: there, the graduation exam was turned into a massacre where students had to kill their own classmates. So behind the words "ninja academy" in each village lies its own, separate story.
Konoha Ninja Academy: training, exam and graduates
After the Fourth Shinobi World War, the Academy changed along with the village. Peacetime made training less harsh, and former troublemakers themselves took the podium: Iruka rose to become principal, and Konohamaru became a mentor for Naruto's children. The circle is complete — and the new generation begins its journey in the same place, at the Academy desk.
