Taijutsu is the most honest type of combat in the shinobi world. No hand seals, elements, or illusions: only the body, speed, and years of training. This is the path of those who achieve strength not through a blood gift or cunning chakra, but through sweat and blood on the training field. And sometimes it is the bare fist that takes down those who throw fire dragons. Taijutsu is one of the three basic types of techniques.

In short. Taijutsu — hand-to-hand combat techniques. They require almost no chakra or hand seals, relying on physical strength, speed, and body mastery. Their main trump card is that they cannot be spotted in advance and are nearly impossible to "read."

What is taijutsu

Unlike ninjutsu, taijutsu does not convert chakra into an external effect — it relies on the fighter's own body. Hence its treachery: you don't need to form hand seals for a strike, which makes it harder to predict. A fast taijutsu master can end a fight before the opponent has time to weave the first technique.

This path has its own price. Against long-range ninjutsu, a taijutsu master needs to get close to the enemy, and this is not always possible. Therefore, the best fighters combine hand-to-hand power with speed that allows them to instantly cover the distance.

The path of those without chakra

Taijutsu often becomes a choice not from a good life. The most striking example is Rock Lee: he is completely unable to use ninjutsu and genjutsu, and therefore devoted himself entirely to hand-to-hand combat. Under the guidance of his mentor Might Guy, he turned his only path into a formidable weapon and more than once baffled the "gifted" geniuses.

That is the beauty of taijutsu: it proves that with hard work you can catch up to and surpass any talent.

Eight Inner Gates

The pinnacle of body art is the Eight Gates technique. The body itself limits its own strength to avoid tearing muscles and burning the heart. Taijutsu of the highest level removes these locks one by one, gate after gate, multiplying the fighter's power many times over.

The price is terrible: opening the last gates grants power on the level of a Kage, but burns the body to ashes. This is how Might Guy opened the final, Eighth Gate in battle against the strongest enemy, flaring up with his entire life in a single blow.

Taijutsu Masters

All shinobi are skilled in hand-to-hand combat, but truly great body masters are few.

Master

Strengths

Might Guy

The greatest taijutsu master, wields all Eight Gates

Rock Lee

Genius of perseverance, a fighter without ninjutsu or genjutsu

Tsunade

Legendary strength: a strike that channels chakra at the moment of impact

Neji Hyuga

Gentle Fist of the Hyuga clan

Gentle Fist of the Hyuga clan, striking the chakra network

Taijutsu has its own schools. Guy's Strong Fist is power that breaks bones with direct strikes. The Gentle Fist of the Hyuga clan is the complete opposite: pinpoint touches that close the chakra exit points of the opponent. And Lee's signature techniques, the Lotuses, are built on extreme speed and power at the cost of damage to one's own body.

Who else masters the art of the body and other techniques — see in the guide to all Naruto characters and the general breakdown of types of techniques.

And if you don't want to read about others' strikes, but want to put everything into speed and body strength yourself — there is a separate role-playing world based on Konoha for that.
