Neji grows up and changes. After his defeat by Naruto in the exams and the revelation of the truth about his father's death, he rejects fatalism and no longer believes that a person's fate is predetermined from birth. He chooses his own path—to become stronger and never lose again. Neji becomes more open and calm; his former cold arrogance gives way to restrained confidence. He treats Hinata with care, protects her in battle and acknowledges her as the heir of the main branch, although he previously despised this. Neji is grateful to Naruto for freeing him from the 'darkness,' and believes that it is Naruto's faith that can reach Sasuke. He values his teammates, especially Lee, with whom he once competed. Neji remains serious, terse, but not cruel. He possesses immense pride in his clan and his abilities, but this pride no longer turns into arrogance. Even in the most difficult moments of war, he maintains his composure, analyzes the situation, and protects his allies at the cost of his own life.
