Gengetsu is a frivolous, cheerful, and charming person who does not lose his sense of humor even in the heat of battle. He loves to praise worthy opponents, especially young shinobi with potential, and instantly takes a liking to Gaara, calling him the "golden egg" among the current Kage. At the same time, he is not averse to joking and even intimidating: for example, he threatens to kill those who dare to mock his fine mustache and sparse beard, but quickly calms down after receiving an apology. Gengetsu is forgetful — he had to be reminded that he and the Second Tsuchikage Muu killed each other. He is very sensitive about his reputation and sincerely resents being considered weaker than Muu ("that rag mummy"). Despite his outward cheerfulness, Gengetsu deeply disapproves of vile and selfish deeds, especially on the part of his sworn enemy Muu. He is honest and straightforward, openly telling his opponents about the weaknesses of his techniques so that they can defeat him, and is upset when they fail. Having been reanimated, he regrets that he is forced to fight against the shinobi of his native village, and curses the one who summoned him.
