Hengec — frivolous, cheerful, and charming person, who even in the heat of battle does not lose his sense of humor. He adores praising worthy opponents, especially young shinobi with potential, and instantly feels sympathy for Gaara, calling him a "golden egg" among the current Kage. At the same time, he does not mind joking and even threatening: for example, he threatens to kill those who dare to mock his thin mustache and rare beard, but quickly backs off after receiving apologies. Hengec is forgetful — he had to be reminded that he and the Second Tsuchikage Mu killed each other. He is very sensitive about his reputation and sincerely indignant when he is considered weaker than Muu ("this rag‑mummy"). Despite his outward cheerfulness, Hengec deeply disapproves of mean and selfish actions, especially from his sworn enemy Muu. He is honest and straightforward, openly telling opponents about the weaknesses of his techniques so they could defeat him, and he is upset when they fail. Having been resurrected, he regrets that he is forced to fight against the shinobi of his native village, and curses the one who summoned him.
