Konoha Military Police: Law of the Hidden Leaf
The Military Police was founded by the Second Hokage to maintain order within Konoha. It investigated shinobi crimes, upheld discipline, and stood guard over the village's laws.
Unlike combat squads, the police looked not outward but inward, and therefore had considerable power over the residents of the Hidden Leaf themselves.
Briefly about the organization. The internal police of the village, keeping order among shinobi. Its symbol, the Uchiha fan over a shield, and almost the entire staff is one clan, which determined its fate.
Uchiha clan on duty
Police service fell almost entirely on the Uchiha clan. Their Sharingan, which sees lies and remembers every detail, made them ideal investigators, and the clan's discipline and pride, ideal guardians of order.
The police was headed by Fugaku Uchiha, the clan head. For the Uchiha, it was not just a job, but a sign of their status and contribution to the village's safety.
Honor or a cage?
But this honor had another side. After the Nine-Tails' attack, the village secretly suspected the Uchiha of involvement in the disaster, since their Sharingan can control the beast.
Isolation. The clan was pushed to the outskirts and given the police to keep the Uchiha in sight and away from real power.
Surveillance under the guise of honor. What was presented as trust was a form of control: the police itself was under secret surveillance.
Resentment. The Uchiha felt this distrust and increasingly distanced themselves from the village they were protecting.
From distrust to tragedy
The accumulated resentment led the Uchiha to thoughts of a coup, and the village, through Root and Danzo, to a terrible decision to destroy the clan preemptively.
Thus the organization that was supposed to uphold the law found itself at the center of its most brutal violation. The perpetrator of the massacre was Itachi, and the police force, along with nearly the entire clan, ceased to exist overnight. The history of Konoha's military police is a reminder of how distrust of one's own protectors can turn into a catastrophe.
