Fugaku Uchiha gave the impression of a stern and withdrawn man who rarely smiled and almost never praised those around him. As the clan head, he focused entirely on the well-being of the Uchiha and felt a great responsibility for every clansman. He was very observant and easily noticed surveillance, which made him one of the most perceptive captains of the Military Police. As a child, Sasuke considered his father cold and indifferent, but Mikoto knew that in private her husband constantly talked about his younger son. Fugaku inherited the Will of Fire and sincerely wanted to maintain peace between the clan and the village, not to stir up enmity. He deliberately hid his Mangekyo Sharingan from the clan, fearing it would push his clansmen to attempt to capture the Nine-Tails. For a long time, he placed his main hopes on Itachi, trained him and protected him from accusations, but after his eldest son's estrangement, he turned his attention to Sasuke. He did not desire bloodshed and, even after agreeing to the coup under pressure from the clan, sought a way to carry it out with the fewest casualties. Despite his outward severity, he loved both sons, although he rarely expressed it directly. When Itachi came for his parents' lives, Fugaku did not resist and accepted death without a fight, because he did not want to harm his eldest son. In his final moments, together with his wife, he expressed pride in Itachi and asked only one thing — to take care of Sasuke. He regretted that the burden of the clan placed on Itachi had stolen his son's future, and blamed himself for it.
