The Outer Path is one of the seven abilities of the Six Paths Technique, possessed by the Rinnegan user. It stands apart from the other six paths and grants power over life and death. The Outer Path user can resurrect the dead through the Life Cycle Technique, but pays for this with their own life.
The Rinnegan allows creating black receivers and transmitting one's chakra through them. If such a receiver enters the body of a living person, it disrupts their chakra flow and completely immobilizes the victim — they remain conscious but lose the ability to move. If the black receivers are implanted into corpses or resurrected bodies, the user gains full control over them, remotely manipulating them like puppets. This is exactly how the Six Paths of Pain are created: each body bears the reflection of the Rinnegan in its eyes and shares the field of vision with the user, as do the creatures summoned by the Animal Path and the King of Hell itself. If necessary, the owner of the Outer Path can materialize the chakra chains of the Demonic Statue of the Outer Path, which bind those who touch the receivers with multiplied force.
Hagoromo Ōtsutsuki demonstrated the Outer Path's ability to summon the souls of deceased Kage from the Pure Land for temporary assistance, as well as to break the restraints of the Impure World Technique, freeing the summoned souls.
