The Rinne-Sharingan is a dōjutsu of the kekkei mōra level, a precursor to both the Rinnegan and the Sharingan. Externally, it is distinguished by its red sclera and irises, a wave-like pattern spreading across the eyeball, and nine tomoe. This dōjutsu first manifested in Kaguya Ōtsutsuki as a third eye on her forehead after she ate the fruit of the Divine Tree. It was also possessed by the Ten-Tails, which arose from the fusion of Kaguya with the Divine Tree.
According to the stone tablet of the Uchiha clan, when the possessor of the Rinnegan's power draws near the moon, an eye will open that will be reflected from the moon and bestow an infinite dream. This was confirmed when Madara Uchiha, having become the jinchūriki of the Ten-Tails and regained both Rinnegan, manifested the Rinne-Sharingan on his forehead. After Black Zetsu turned Madara's body into a vessel for Kaguya's resurrection, she retained this dōjutsu.
The Rinne-Sharingan possesses the ocular power of the Sharingan and is capable of creating the Infinite Tsukuyomi — a global genjutsu that can only be lifted through the combined action of the Rinnegan and the chakra of the nine tailed beasts. With this eye, Kaguya could transport herself and those around her to alternate dimensions. When Kaguya was sealed by the Six Paths Chibaku Tensei technique, her third eye closed with a horizontal eyelid resembling the sun and the moon.
