Cutting Air Waves is a ninjutsu in which Zaku Abumi generates energy in his elbows and releases it through an opening in his palm via a tube implanted in his forearm. This energy is a mixture of sound and air waves, and their ratio changes depending on the task. If only air waves are used without sound ones, the force of the discharge is sufficient to split stone. The technique can deflect flying projectiles, soften the ground to create a cushion, and knock people off their feet. Its power drops sharply with increasing distance.
Zaku can apply the technique with one hand against a single target or with both hands at once against different targets. If both hands are directed at one target, in certain cases it transitions into Extreme Cutting Air Waves. Despite the convenience and ease of use, the tubes in his hands are a serious weakness: if their openings are blocked during activation, the energy has no outlet and tears apart the elbows, ripping them off his body.
