Shuriken is a traditional throwing weapon of the ninja, widely used in the world of Naruto. It is a metal disc with several sharp blades evenly spaced around the circumference. A standard shuriken has four blades, although variants with different numbers of points exist.
In the arsenal of Konohagakure shinobi and other hidden villages, the shuriken is one of the basic tools mastered already at the academy stage. Ninja use this weapon to strike targets at a distance, create distracting maneuvers, and as carriers for paper bombs or other explosive tags.
There are several varieties of shuriken. The classic four-pointed shuriken is the most common variant, convenient for quick throwing and easy concealment in clothing folds. The Fūma shuriken is a significantly larger version requiring two hands to throw, possessing greater destructive power and capable of inflicting serious wounds even on a partial hit.
The material used for manufacturing is hardened steel, capable of withstanding repeated use and collisions with other metal objects. Advanced ninja can imbue shuriken with chakra, enhancing their piercing ability and flight accuracy. Some masters, such as members of the Uchiha clan, demonstrate exceptional skill in throwing, able to hit multiple targets with a single throw or alter the weapon's flight trajectory in mid-air.
Shuriken is often used in combination with other techniques and items — retrieval threads, poisoned tips, and as an element of more complex tactical maneuvers in team battles. Despite its apparent simplicity, effective use of the shuriken requires years of practice and a developed sense of distance.
