In the Edo Tensei state, Zabuza retains memory of his death and previous life experience, but his will is partially suppressed by Kabuto's control. Nevertheless, his personality traits manifest vividly: he feels profound revulsion at being used as a puppet alongside Haku, calling this "defilement of death." He bitterly realizes that he is denied the right to rest, and asks Kakashi to stop him at any cost, emphasizing: "I died as a human."

Zabuza specializes in Hidden Mist techniques. His signature technique is the "Hidden Mist" technique, which allows him to enshroud the area in dense fog, depriving the enemy of the ability to see and disorienting them. In this mist, he operates silently, using the "Silent Killing" style. He also wields water-nature techniques, including "Water Dragon" and "Water Prison" — the latter allows him to trap an opponent in a sphere of water, immobilizing them. As a former Anbu and a member of the Seven Ninja Swordsmen of the Mist, he has mastered the combat application of ninjutsu in combination with a sword.
