Kankuro undergoes noticeable changes. In his youth, he was irritable, feared his younger brother, and avoided children, but now his attitude toward Gaara has completely changed. He becomes one of the most devoted defenders of his brother, ready to risk his life to save him. When Akatsuki kidnaps Gaara, Kankuro pursues them alone, and later, while dying from poison, he deliriously repeats his brother's name.
He takes pride in his village and its traditions, but is not devoid of humor and self-irony. He maintains friendly relations with allies from Konoha, though he can be sharp when it comes to the honor of Sunagakure. Kankuro is a man of action: he doesn't waste time on empty words, preferring to prove his mastery in battle.
During the war years, Kankuro reveals himself as a responsible commander. Leading the Ambush Division of the Allied Shinobi Forces, he cares for his subordinates, makes instant decisions in critical situations (such as with Deidara's trap), and demands that everyone focus on completing the task. He values the art of puppetry not only as a combat style, but also as a legacy worthy of continuation. In conversation with the reanimated Sasori, he helps him realize that the true strength of a puppet master lies in the soul, not in abandoning it.
