Kakuzu is extremely mercenary and considers money the only reliable thing in the world. He evaluates any endeavor solely from the perspective of potential profit and is unwilling to expend effort on anything that will not bring gain. In Akatsuki, he serves as the treasurer, conscientiously funding the organization's operations. Kakuzu does not believe in immortality in a mystical sense and views his ability merely as a means of prolonging life. He is impatient and cannot tolerate long rituals or empty speeches, especially from his partner. At the same time, Kakuzu is calculating and cautious, never rushing into battle headlong. Fits of rage occur frequently with him and often end in the death of those around him. With Hidan, he coexists only because the latter cannot be killed, meaning the partner endures his temperament. Kakuzu can appreciate a smart opponent, as was the case with Kakashi and Shikamaru. He respects strength but does not revere past legends, recalling his fight with the First Hokage as a biographical fact. Despite his greed, he is disciplined and obeys direct orders from the leader of Akatsuki. The betrayal of his native village engendered in him a deep hatred for Takigakure. He rarely becomes attached to people and easily forgets those for whom no bounty has been assigned. Kakuzu is pragmatic to the point of cynicism and devoid of illusions about human nature. His life credo is: "If prepared, there will be no sorrow."
