Guruko is one of the eight ninken with whom Kakashi Hatake has a contract. He can only be summoned to the battlefield if there is an active contract with this animal. The summoning itself is performed as follows: blood is applied to the palm, five hand seals are formed, after which the hand is pressed against a surface.
As a combat unit, Guruko is valuable first and foremost for his sense of smell: he tracks a trail unerringly, can speak, and acts in coordination with the rest of the pack's dogs. He is also able to move underground, following the target's scent using the Earth Technique: Tracking Fang, and upon finding an enemy, he latches on and holds him, giving his master time to attack. In battle, the pack uses its agile and powerful limbs, employing various offensive and defensive formations.
In appearance, Guruko is a dog with sandy fur and a white muzzle. His long ears are colored dark brown, and his whiskers are more noticeable than those of Kakashi's other ninken. He wears standard equipment: a blue vest with the Heno-Heno-Moji symbol and a Konoha headband on his forehead.
