Thanks to this, they can detect and track targets by their unique chakra signature. The range depends on the strength of the specific sensor. The technique requires active concentration and does not activate by itself, so during battle a sensor may miss important events if distracted. In addition to simple detection, it allows determining the opponent's level of strength, distinguishing people and species by the hue of their chakra, sensing lies through chakra fluctuations, and recognizing whether the sensor themselves or their allies are under the influence of a genjutsu.
