Flying Swallow is a weapon enhancement technique in which the user channels chakra into the blade. The chakra forms an additional blade around the weapon, increasing its cutting power and range of effect. By controlling the amount of chakra, one can change the length and density of this blade, making it difficult for the opponent to anticipate the distance and timing of the attack. Asuma Sarutobi uses this technique with his Chakra Blades and prefers to add the wind element, applying nature transformation to the shape transformation that is the Swallow, so that the blade becomes sharp enough to cut stone and metal.
