Ranmaru's Dojutsu is a rare kekkei genkai; when activated, the user's eyes glow red. In terms of capabilities, it resembles the Byakugan, but in many ways surpasses it. The wielder is able to see and hear events at enormous distances, clearly discerning what is happening through walls and other obstacles. He senses the chakra and life force of others, easily finds and tracks targets, and can also read hidden thoughts and analyze the smallest details. The dojutsu allows predicting the opponent's next move and determining whether a person is alive, even if their chakra circulation system seems inactive.
In addition, Ranmaru's eyes can suppress the vision of such special techniques as the Byakugan and hinder the opponent from recognizing genjutsu. He himself creates complex illusions that deceive sensory abilities, and can either completely conceal his own chakra system or create flawless false copies of others', using the red dust around himself or the target. A separate ability is transferring part of his own life force to heal a person on the verge of death.
