Fuma Shuriken

The shuriken is a classic ninja throwing weapon, widely used in the world of Naruto. This compact device has the form of a star with several sharp blades radiating from a central axis. Thanks to its small size and light weight, the shuriken can be conveniently hidden in the folds of clothing, special sheaths, or equipment bags, making it an ideal tool for covert operations and surprise attacks.

In combat application, the shuriken is primarily used for throwing at medium and close range. Ninja can launch them individually or in series, creating a hit zone and forcing the opponent to open up for subsequent attacks. The sharp blade can inflict serious wounds with an accurate hit to vulnerable points on the body. Experienced shinobi can impart rotation to the shuriken, increasing the range and accuracy of the throw, and also use various throwing techniques, including ricocheting off surfaces for unexpected trajectories.

Despite its apparent simplicity, the shuriken requires considerable skill for effective use. Beginners often carry a large number of such projectiles to compensate for inaccurate throws, whereas masters can get by with a minimal arsenal, hitting targets on the first attempt. The Fuma Shuriken version is associated with the Fuma clan, known for their developed throwing techniques and fuinjutsu, which gives this weapon additional significance in the context of combat traditions of certain shinobi.

Its versatility is manifested in combination with other techniques — from creating distracting maneuvers to using it as conductors for elemental nature transformations. Compactness and relative cheapness of production make the shuriken an indispensable element of equipment for both beginner genin and experienced jonin participating in dangerous missions.
