Yamato is a reserved, cautious, and extremely responsible ninja. He always prepares thoroughly for missions and remains calm even in critical situations. As a former member of ANBU, he takes orders very seriously and demands to be called by his current code name. He has a dry sense of humor, and he does not shy away from "ruling through fear" — his famous "creepy face with empty eyes" strikes terror into Naruto, who even starts using polite speech. Despite his outward severity, Yamato is not devoid of kindness and care for his comrades, especially for Naruto, whose Nine-Tails power he helps to hold back. He has a high work capacity, but because of this he is often overloaded with work, especially when it comes to rebuilding the village with the Wood Release. Yamato loves architecture, and his hobby is reading books about construction, which he happily combines with building wooden houses for lodging. He is a man of few words, but his words are always precise and weighty. In battle he acts rationally, assessing the enemy's strength and not taking needless risks. After he grew attached to Team 7, he sincerely worries about Naruto and his friends, even breaking orders to help them.
