Shizune consistently maintains a sober mind and acts as the most practical and rational member of Tsunade's inner circle. It is she who tends to excessively worry over any imprudence of the lady, be it endless card debts or risky decisions as Hokage. Her usual reaction to a harsh shout or something frightening is a comically loud, terrified scream, often directed at Tsunade herself. She is kind, gentle, and invariably cares for the piglet Ton-Ton, but if anyone insults Tsunade, her disposition instantly becomes harsh and almost merciless, and her loyalty flares with fierce force. Moreover, she is not afraid to argue with the Fifth Hokage and even secretly reported her concerns to the Konoha council, risking spoiling relations. In her are strong moral principles: she tried to dissuade Tsunade from making a deal with Orochimaru, believing that the resurrected Dan and Nawaki would not accept such a price, and even entertained the thought of needing to eliminate the lady for the greater good. She regards her work as a doctor with utmost seriousness and despises unethical methods such as profiting from injured children. Shizune is energetic, businesslike, and constantly hurries Tsunade with paperwork to avoid piles of unsorted documents. In rare moments of intoxication she gives vent to deeply hidden insecurity about her own figure and loneliness from many years of wandering, occasionally envying another's femininity. Despite her outward fragility, in her lives an unbending will and absolute, almost filial loyalty to her mentor and the memory of her uncle. Her entire life is subordinated to duty, but through the strictness of the assistant constantly seeps a caring, slightly grumbling warmth.
