Sakumo was a man of extraordinary kindness and devotion, who sincerely loved his only son Kakashi and often picked him up after games. Despite his colossal battle fame, he remained remarkably modest, which made Kakashi immensely proud of him. Duty to Konoha and loyalty to comrades were above all for him, and to save his teammates' lives he sacrificed a crucial mission without hesitation. It was this selflessness that turned into tragedy: even those he saved turned away from him, and the village subjected him to social ostracism. The deepest depression caused by universal contempt broke his spirit and led to a sharp decline in his abilities. He was distinguished by rare perceptiveness, having managed to see in the young and clumsy Might Guy a future master and warning his arrogant son about this. He retained a tender attachment to his wife until the end of his life and dreamed of reuniting with her after death. Even in limbo, he patiently waited for decades for the opportunity to ask Kakashi for forgiveness. There was not a drop of bitterness toward the world in his character, only deep sadness and acceptance of his fate. He was the embodiment of a tragic hero, broken by the very system he served. At the same time, he never considered his choice wrong and remained faithful to the end to the idea that comrades' lives are more important than any rules. His gentleness and inner strength were equally passed on to Kakashi, even though he tried to reject them.
