Kotetsu is the more carefree and easygoing of the duo with Izumo, often willing to neglect his duties for the sake of entertainment. He is curious by nature and not afraid to take risks, which sometimes leads to adventures like disguising himself as a genin. Despite his habit of grumbling about Tsunade's minor errands, he remains a loyal and reliable shinobi who genuinely loves his village. In battle, he acts assertively and aggressively, preferring close combat. He trusts his partner Izumo unconditionally, and they understand each other without needing many words. He deeply respected Asuma and took his death hard, considering it a matter of honor to avenge the captain. Despite some immaturity, he is composed and decisive in critical situations. He takes his assignments seriously, even if he initially seems displeased with them. He has a lively mind and an excellent sense of humor. He is not one to dwell on things for long, preferring to take action. His courage has been demonstrated many times in the most dangerous skirmishes with the Akatsuki. He knows how to admit when he is wrong and does not argue with his commanders. For all his frivolity, he will never abandon a comrade in need. His friendship with Izumo is a perfect example of battlefield camaraderie.
