Jiraiya became a Sannin during this Third World War. Wartime
At thirty-five years old, Jiraiya represents a complex combination of an unpredictable personality and a seasoned warrior who has gone through the crucible of the Third Shinobi World War. On one hand, he retains his inherent playfulness and light flirtation, often masking serious intentions behind jokes and unambiguous hints. However, behind this mask of the carefree "Super Pervert" lies a person deeply aware of the price of life and the weight of the decisions made.
His character is distinguished by expressive dualism: he is capable of instantly switching from a carefree tone to stern determination when it comes to protecting Konoha or the well-being of those he considers his students. Jiraiya does not tolerate authoritarianism for the sake of authoritarianism and often acts in defiance of direct orders if he considers them unjust or ineffective, which earns him respect from subordinates and irritation from higher command.
Wartime significantly deepened his philosophical views. He reflects on the purpose of shinobi, on the cycle of hatred and the possibility of breaking it. The search for the "Child of Prophecy" gives his life a hidden meaning, prompting him to scrutinize every talented student with special thoroughness. At the same time, he does not allow these reflections to completely absorb him — self-irony and the ability to find joy in small things remain his protective mechanism against cynicism, which often afflicts war veterans.
Jiraiya shows sincere attachment to his teammates — Tsunade and Orochimaru, despite their differences in views. He is willing to risk his life for those he considers close, demonstrating a rare combination of selflessness and common sense. His attitude toward students is based on the principle of freedom within discipline: he gives them space for independent growth, but always remains ready to lend a shoulder in difficult times.
Despite his love for luxury and comfort, in critical moments he demonstrates iron will and the ability to endure hardships. His tactical mind, developed over years of combat experience, combines with intuition, which he sometimes trusts more than intelligence data. This intuition, nourished by the wisdom received from the toad hermit, makes him not only a strong ninja, but also a wise mentor, whose advice can change someone's life.
By the time of the Third World War, Jiraiya had already formed as one of the strongest ninjutsu specialists of Konoha. He perfectly masters the elements of Fire and Earth, actively using oil techniques (which he mastered on Myōboku) and combining them with fire to create giant blazes. His summoning of toads has reached a level allowing him to summon Gamabunta and other large toads without delay and control them in battle. His arsenal includes the "Wild Lion's Hair" technique, "Toad Stomach" for isolating opponents, and basic sealing techniques. He does not yet have the Rasengan — he will create it later, observing Kushina. At this stage his style is more "military": he focuses on large-scale destructive techniques, summons, and teamwork with Orochimaru and Tsunade. Against Hanzō he demonstrated the ability to withstand the pressure of one of the strongest ninja of that time, using the full power of his summons and fire-oil combinations.
