Shino is a calm, collected, and taciturn boy who from childhood gives off an impression of being mysterious and even somewhat frightening. He rarely displays emotions, never smiles and never raises his voice, yet he possesses his own specific sense of humor and a habit of asking rhetorical questions "why?", which he then answers himself. He approaches life with cold logic, calculating situations several steps ahead.
Despite his outward aloofness, Shino is very loyal to his teammates — Kiba and Hinata, though he doesn't show this openly. He does not expect gratitude for his actions and believes that help is self-evident. Instead of thanking his teammates for congratulating him on his victory in the preliminary exam round, he said that he expects the same from them.
Shino possesses a peculiar sense of duty: he regrets that he could not participate in the mission to retrieve Sasuke, and he dwells on this for a long time, believing that his presence could have changed the outcome. He tends to harbor resentment if someone doesn't recognize or appreciate him, but expresses this not through open conflict but through demonstrative ignoring. In battle he is cold-blooded and calculating, never underestimating his opponent and using his abilities with maximum efficiency.
